"Stick with what you know"

That's what is going to be on my tombstone.

I am a creature of habit. If something works, I'm going to stick with it until it doesn't work anymore. And, if I'm going to try something new, I've got to know it has worked for at least 2 other people and will work for me.

Isn't that awful?!

One year, 2005, I think, I had a New Year's resolution to try one new thing every week. 52 new things, that's it. AND, they didn't have to be hard things at all. Some examples include:

Wear leather pants
Read a comic book
Bake a cake - seriously.
Eat Sushi

I so cheated, too. I got married that year. There are A LOT of firsts that come along with marriage, and I counted them all. Which brought my total to 20. TWENTY!

I'm not sure why I'm so afraid to try new things...(I did in fact try sushi, and I LOVED it. I still love it. I beg Micah for it at least once a month)...but, it needs to change. I'm missing out on wonderful things!!

So, I'm trying it again. 52 new things to try. I don't require myself to actually do one a week. I try, but I'm flexible just in case an opportunity arises.

I'm putting the things above on my list again, cause besides the sushi, I didn't do them. Some other ideas I have are:

ride a mechanical bull
visit another country (even if it's just Canada)
cook a turkey
take a class or two (fun ones on like arranging flowers, storm spotting, or photography!)

And, of course, I'm going to count graduating from college, because I'm lame.

What ideas do you have me? I need a lot!!

Here is a random list of things that maybe you have never done (but maybe you have done most of them):

buy something at an auction,
make a short movie,
paint a fence,
draw a face,
make a candle,
give every last penny of saved money to God,
plant a tree,
dress up as a clown,
build a clock,
skate backwards,
fast for 5 days,
learn to tie a new useful knot,
light a gas furnace,
pickup a hitch-hiker,
write a book,
milk a goat,
...

How about have a girl cousin for Rachel? Think of all the new things that would come with that! For instance: pregnancy, childbirth, sleepless nights (maybe you've already tried those!), baby stuff shopping, becoming a mom, seeing Micah in a whole new role, discovering everyone around you is a crazy driver (after all, you have precious cargo in your car!!), and most of all, having someone new to love! By the way, a boy would be fine too, but Rachel would really like a girl cousin!

Other ideas we have are:
-learn money oragami
-drive down a road you've never been down before
-buy a WOOT!
-read a sci-fi book
-cut Micah's hair
-ride a unicycle (we have them at camp!)
-go a week w/o something you really like
-write a missionary you've never met (or one you have!)
-eat breakfast with your eyes closed

Maybe you can post some of the new things you do! We'd like to hear them!

Have fun!

Hey, I was going to say have a kid! Ok, let me see what I can think of.

-play a board game you've never played before
-learn a new card game
-try Indian food
-pick a random address out of the phone book and send them a tract

I think cooking a Turkey is a great idea. You can have Thanksgiving Dinner at your house next year!

Hm...I too am so very habitual...so much so that I can't even think of anything new and/or exciting. Also, no matter what flash says, it's not a good idea to pick up a hitch-hiker, ok?!
