This year I'm trying to read through the Bible chronologically. Because of this, I read the first few chapters of Genesis, then skipped to Job and read all of it before returning to Genesis.

Two things have really popped out to me so far in my reading. (Well, more than 2 things, but these are the ones that are on my heart today.)

Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. - Genesis 5:24

There was a man in the land of Uz whose name was Job; and that man was blameless, upright, fearing God and turning away from evil. - Job 1:1

After reading these verses, I couldn't help but think about what people will say of me when I'm no longer around. But not just what people would say about me, but what the Lord would want people to know about me.

One sentence each for these men, but they speak wonders about the way they lived their life. Just a few words, but a mighty testimony as to what pleases the Lord.

Could it be said of me that I walked with the Lord, as Enoch did? When reflecting on my life, would God Himself call me blameless and upright? Would He say that I feared Him and turned away from evil?

I love finding little nuggets like this in the Old Testament. It's nice to find things that are applicable to my life, things that I can work towards.
